about
In the summer of 2017, during a co-write between two childhood friends, Doc Robinson’s lead singer Jon Elliott and songwriter/producer Alex Fitts of The Kickdrums planted the seeds that would sprout into “Ride the Wave.” The song first came to life in a scorching hot attic studio in Columbus, Ohio, where Doc Robinson calls home. Elliott later passed through Fitts' NYC studio to finish a handful of groovy indie pop demos. Shortly after, Fitts relocated to Malaga, Spain, and the songs were shelved, waiting patiently for their day in the sun … a day that has finally come.
"We like to think of this song as a pep talk, advice being given to a younger and less experienced friend or loved one who’s coming of age and entering a brand new and wild world,” Elliott said of the song. “The message is to embrace the freedom of going out on your own, taking on new adventures, and trying to let go of the unnecessary weight and stress that the outside world can make us place upon ourselves."
lyrics
Why not?
Who's gonna to tell you not to fly high?
In case you forgot, youngin’
You're on your own,
But you're not alone on the flight
Take a shot, and roll with the heavenly flow tonight
Don't look at the clock, running
There's nowhere to go, and nobody here knows the time
I think you know what you're gonna have to do.
Get down
Ride the wave
You’re all in your head
Gettin’ carried away
Feel alive, feel your way
The thrill is divine
If you're willing to play
Try to let it go,
Try to take it easy
Try to let it go,
Try to take it easy
So let go, of everything tearing you up inside
You’re wrapped up in knots (sonny)
Don’t let it show, and know everything’s gonna be fine
Live and let live, forgive, and try to forget tonight
Raise your cup up youngin’
Know that you’re blessed and
Don’t ever let stress kill the high
Get a grip-up on your mind and get it right
Get down
Ride the wave
You’re all in your head
Gettin’ carried away
Feel alive, feel your way
The thrill is divine
If you're willing to play
Try to let it go,
Try to take it easy
Try to let it go,
Try to take it easy
And if the wave break you down a little, let it
This kind of ride can get a little wild but you won’t forget it
So let it take you away
Get down
Ride the wave
You’re all in your head
Gettin’ carried away
Feel alive, feel your way
The thrill is divine
If you're willing to play
Try to let it go,
Try to take it easy
Try to let it go,
Try to take it easy
Try to take it easy
Try to take it easy
Try to let it go,
Try to take it easy
Get down
Ride the wave
The thrill is divine
If you're willing to play
